The restoration of the marble floors
Marble floors survive in nearly all the palace’s building complexes, including the large hall of the baths, the Basilica aisle, the east and west corridors of the Central Building Complex, the Apsidal Hall, and above all, the Octagon. Of the conservation work carried out on these floors, we will refer in detail to the conservation and restoration of the marble floor of the Octagon, which survives to a larger extent. The principles and methodology followed in the restoration of this floor were also applied in the conservation of other floors.
